Asian Karting Open Championship 2012 – Round 3
1-2 September, Philippines
Jon arrived at the Carmona Racing Track on Friday morning for the practice while others were already there since Wednesday.
Using the same equipment and set-up from the last round, the team was puzzled as to why there was a lack of pace even after four practice sessions. It was almost one second off his previous lap times whether it was in dry or wet conditions!
On Saturday morning, Jon pushed his kart as hard as he could but it just did not work out and he only managed to qualify in 8th position. Heat 1 was raced on a drying track after a brief shower and things seemed to improve for Jon as he finished in 5th position. Heat 2 and 3 were dry and wet races respectively, with Jon only managing to secure 7th and 5thposition respectively, thereby putting him 7th on the grid for the Pre-Final on Sunday.
The team made many set-up changes in a last bid to solve the problem, including changing the seat and ride position. However, the team still could not find the pace they needed. In the Pre-Final, Jon was able to improve his position to 6th and that was the position he eventually finished in the Finals too.
It has been a tough weekend that left the team with many questions unanswered.
Round 4 has been re-scheduled to November 23–25. This time, the race will be held at a new location in Hong Kong.
