Asian Karting Open Championship 2013 – Round 1
18-19 May 2013, Philippines
With the support from Kartmaster Drakar Racing Team, it was Jon’s first attempt racing in the complete season of Asian Karting Open Championship 2012 (AKOC). Despite his first year in Junior, Jon secured three podiums out of five races and achieved third position overall. With such promising results, it looks like Jon should continue to focus on racing overseas.

All work and no play makes Jon a dull boy. So following his last two examination papers on the morning on 16 May, it was race time again for Jon as he and his dad set off for the Philippines in the afternoon without delay.
After a long wait of close to five months, Round 1 of AKOC 2013 flagged off in the Philippines on 18 May 2013 at the Carmona Race Track. Jon was totally upbeat about returning to this unforgettable track where he had raced twice last year in challenging weather conditions. Furthermore, he was looking forward to seeing and racing with his new friend, Gabriel, whom he met last year.
Despite racing with a strong group of local contenders, Jon dominated three out of the five races over the two days. On Saturday, he qualified second, and finished heat 1 and heat 2 in pole and heat 3 on second position. The total points helped him to start pole on Sunday morning. With a good start, he finished Pre-final in pole again.
Gabriel was leading the time sheets for the past two days and was Jon’s target as he prepared to fight a good, clean battle with him in the Final. After 19 laps of taking the lead, Gabriel, an overall champion in the 2012 national race in the Philippines, made his move to pass Jon at the high-speed turn one. Jon could not muster enough speed from his machine to chase Gabriel and had to settle for second. Nevertheless, it was a fantastic race for Jon with great results. He will now focus his attention on Round 2 of AKOC in Macau on 15-16 June.
