Xeramic Challenge 2013
15 December 2013, Malaysia Sepang International Karting Circuit
As announced on the Rotax Max Challenge Asia & Malaysia’s (RMC) Facebook page – “The format and regulations is the same as the Asia Max Challenge (AMC) except that it is run on a one day. We hope drivers will support this race and use the event as part of their efforts to fine tune their chassis and engines for the Rotax Invitational Race on 18 to 19 January 2014”.
Being a regular supporter of RMC, of course, Jon and his dad will grab this golden opportunity and at the same time aim to wrap up 2013 on a high note!
The race format consists of free practise, time trial, heat 1, pre-final and final for each category.

On Sunday morning, Jon qualified a respectable second. However in Heat 1 he dropped to third and in Pre-Final, dropped further to fourth. It was a combination of poor start and weather condition changes that resulted in Jon’s performance drop. Not to be disappointed, the mechanic and Jon decided to take a big risk by making some significant set-up change. It was a correct decision and it paid off as Jon was able to challenge for a podium position from the start of the race. With good pace and stamina, after 20 laps, Jon eventually came back second in the Final.
In celebration, Jon’s overjoyed dad popped a bottle of champagne and took Jon, Josh and four karting friends to a game of paint ball.
Thanks to the organiser for giving us a head start! We look forward to racing the full series of AMC 2014. The first race is the Rotax Invitation Race to be held in Sepang International Karting Circuit from 18-19 January 2014.
For now, we are going to take a break and go on a ski holiday before burning the tracks again.
