I started go karting at the age of seven. After three years of training, I had my first race in year 2009. My proudest achievement in 2009 was to come in third position in the “Red White Sangari Int’l Invitational Kart Prix” race held in Malaysia, 21-22 November 2009. A total of thirty-three racers from seven countries, Asia and as far as Europe, competed in the Rotax Micromax cadet category.

During the qualifying, I did not start off well and only qualified at seventeenth position. In the heat 1 and 2, there were two very aggressive Brazilian drivers ahead of me and many karters were being bumped out and onto the grass but my alertness and perseverance enable me to claw my way back through the field finishing seventh and eleventh position respectively. As such, on the second day of pre-finals, I started off at fifth position. In the finals, as my father pushed my kart onto the starting grid, it started to rain. My kart suffered heavily on understeer which drags me forward whenever I turn into a corner.

However, I was determined to overcome the weather condition and continue to chase my opponents who are in front of me. All my hard work finally paid off as I clinched the third position and won a trophy and cash money of US$2,000. I was very proud standing on the podium and especially having the Singapore Flag flying high and above me during the award ceremony. It is such an unforgettable and memorable moment.
