X30 Challenge 2015 (Round 4)
21 November 2015, KF1 Circuit
This is the last and final round of X30 Challenge 2015, a crucial race that will determine the overall champion after four intensive rounds, who will walk away with a free pass to the 2016 IAME International Final, S$1,500 IAME parts voucher and a limited edition timepiece from Swiss luxury watchmaker deLaCour Geneve, worth S$28,800.
And one of the lucky winner is…..Jon!!
This is his second championship win of the year, in addition to the ROK Cup which he won in July.
Round 4 is the most competitive round with a total of 93 drivers, out of which 18 are Junior drivers. Jon is entering this round 4 with a margin of 28 points to his closest competitor. He just need to have a 25 points lead going into Race 2 to secure the championship and that is exactly what he did! Qualifying at 7th and finishing at 7th position in Race 1 sealed the Championship for Jon. With the burden lifted from Jon’s shoulder, it is time to have some fun on the track.
Race 2 took place under very wet conditions and it was also delayed due to lightning alert. Racing in the rain is one of Jon’s specialty as he made the most out of the 8 laps that had been reduced from 16. While some drivers lost control and spun out on the track, Jon drove flawlessly and moved up from 7th to 4th position. On the last lap and last turn, he overtook the kart in front of him and crossed the checkered flag in 3rd position. After combining the Race 1 and 2 results, Jon was placed 3rd on the podium in round 4.
Many thanks again to TP CRG and Mr. Lawrence for sponsoring Jon in this championship. Not forgetting the race organizer and sponsors for making the race possible.
After winning this championship, Jon will be racing under the Singapore flag in the X30 World Finals on October 2016, most likely to be held in France at the famous Le Mans circuit. We are looking forward to the next X30 Challenge Singapore in 2016 too.
This is the last race for Jon in 2015. He will take a much needed break before he welcomes the new year and begin a new journey in Victoria Junior College.
Happy holidays, everyone!
